That's just a convenient trope for the author to do these amazing animal paintings and give you scads of interesting details about very obscure (and fascinating!) species.I found this book by serendipity.     2. This book was a giant puzzle. It was essentially a single large painting (most of the book contained detailed close-ups of different parts of the painting), containing something like 350 pairs of animals (the list of animals was included), one male and one femaleexcept that a single individual was missing from the painting. The goal was to identify which species was missing and whether it was the male or female. Some sort of prize was attached; I actually was a runner-up in the contest, but unfo [...]


    3. It's fun looking for snails in this book (not a metaphor), but otherwise the idea of chopping an enormous complicated painting into 40 parts to create a look-n-find doesn't really work. Also it's an insanely impossible puzzle. It's the kind of thing Kit Williams might be impressed by, but I'm just overwhelmed.
